Affinity Law Group – Vancouver Interior Photography

Affinity Law Group

Got to go out to Vancouver to shoot Affinity Law Group for Full Frame Marketing. Cool offices and some neat photo opportunities.  Normally interior photography isn’t something I do, but Joe’s awesome and I have no problem giving him a hand for something that doesn’t have a person in it.

The challenge with doing Architectural photography when you’re not an architectural photographer is to find the interesting bits.  The right angle, the right bit of selective focus. Even with a cool office space, you still have to “find” the photo.

Yes Joe, this is the end that takes the photo…

Some of the other big challenges faced here was the lighting.  The colour of interior building lighting is (in general) “blah” (that’s a term that experts use), but by changing the white balance it’s fairly easy to correct for.  The big challenge comes when you mix the interior florescent (green tinged) light with exterior light (which is more of a warm orange, relatively speaking).  Having both colours of light in the same photo (as in the one above where you can see outside) means more colour correction time in the digital darkroom.  Also because I was shooting out the window (when you have an office on the 11th floor of downtown Vancouver how can you not show that off?) I used (subtle, in my opinion) HDR to allow the bright interior and darker exterior merge together.  If you can’t tell it’s HDR then I’ve done my job (there are others who aren’t as subtle with their processing).

You can find out more at the great Cambridge In Colour article on white balance.

All in all a good day in a beautiful but challenging location for Vancouver architecture photography.
