Real Estate agents (REALTORS®) need great headshots that convey not only that they are personable and trustworthy, but they also need something to inject their own personality into them.  Are they sweet?  Tough?  Playful?  A little bit of rock and roll?  Nathan Myhr is a little of the latter (though a good dose of all of the above).  Nathan is working to establish himself in the Langley area and has a great brand as “The REAL Estate Agent”.  He came to me through my Facebook page looking for some headshots that showed his personality as well as photography he could use for business cards, signage, etc.

Tough Guy

As you can see Nathan has some tattoos, and was in the military protecting our country, which is part of his “The REAL Estate Agent” branding.  He wanted them out front and centre for a few shots for his website to replace some older ones there.  I had the most fun shooting these I think.  I love tattoos and being able to have the mix of “business guy in suit” with “cool tattoos” was a great mix to play with photographically.

We spent a good two hours working together at his house in Langley.  First with a backdrop to do headshots that would let me pull some of him out.  Peter Hurley talks about how creating great headshots is 90% psychiatrist and 10% photographer.  This is now so apparent to me.  I used to think “nah, it’s just lighting and getting the person to just give you a good look” until I realized you played shrink for long enough for them to “just give you a good look”.  Luckily Nathan wasn’t too hard to deal with.  He honestly got into the business to help people find their dream home and loves to interact with them (not unlike myself doing headshots and working with people to get photos like these).

We went outside as well.  Living on such a great looking property it seemed wrong to not get some in front of the house.  Even though we had only talked about doing “studio” shots, I’m not going to let a good opportunity like this pass by!

Oh and he had an adorable dog as well, who somehow managed to get herself in a few photos.  No idea how that happened….
