Corporate Headshot Photographer – Jay

Corporate Headshot Photographer – Jay

My dear friend Jay, who I met before photography was even a twinkle in my eye, has grown from a lovable guy with a great wife working as a tech guy at the local ISP to a lovable guy with a great wife and a big fancy job being all corporate and stuff. He’s now what we in the IT business call “a big shot” and needed a new headshot for business cards and speaking engagements (told you he was fancy!). He came to my workplace “studio” and we had a session that resulted in some great shots of him.

Pentax HD DFA 24-70/2.8 Real World Review

Pentax HD DFA 24-70/2.8 Real World Review

After I got the Pentax K-1 I decided it was time to invest in some of the newly released full frame lenses. The first I got was the Pentax HD Pentax-D FA 24-70mm f/2.8ED SDM WR Lens, a gorgeous bit of kit that I’m happy to put together a “Real World Review” of. This is a big and chunky lens, which is not what Pentaxians are used to with their lovely small and light APS-C lenses, but it’s been the lens that’s on my camera most of the time since I got it, as the 24-70 is the canonical “walk around” lens. But does that come at a price? Read on…

Pentax HD D FA 70-200/2.8 First Impressions

Pentax HD D FA 70-200/2.8 First Impressions

I finally broke down and picked up the Pentax HD D FA 70-200/2.8. I took it out for a quick run today at Chilliwack River where there was a kayak race being held. I thought it would make a really good test of the capabilities of this brand new lens from Pentax. I wanted to share a few quick images and some thoughts from the first few photos before a more extensive real world review is posted.

Pitt Meadows Architecture Photography – Hollandia Greenhouses

Pitt Meadows Architecture Photography – Hollandia Greenhouses

I like experimenting now and then with different types of photography that isn’t weddings and portraits. A friend of mine who owns Hollandia Greenhouses in Pitt Meadows asked me to do some architectural photography on their newly redone backyard and pool. I’ve never done this type of photography really seriously so I spent some time with Mike Kelley’s Where Art Meets Architecture from the great FStoppers. Some simple ideas, but a lot of very different thinking is required.

Saying Goodbye To Summer At The Beach

Saying Goodbye To Summer At The Beach

We had about three weeks of amazingly hot and nice weather here in Vancouver, and then, overnight it seems, it disappeared and temperatures went from 30°C+ to the 20’s or high teens with rain. Still jeans and t-shirt weather (my favourite), but a far cry from summer. Luckily I got out to the beach with Terra Jean, one of my wonderful model friends who I’ve been shooting with forever.

Surrey Evening Portrait Photographs – Myranda

Surrey Evening Portrait Photographs – Myranda

Sometimes photoshoots, like this portrait photography session setup in Surrey, go very differently than what you expect, and you have to think on your feet. Myranda asked me “do you want to have an adventure?” when she proposed this creative shoot, and I thought she meant ignoring the Check Engine light on my car, or getting my Starbucks Chai Tea Latte without the spices on top…

Chilliwack Portrait Photography – Eldon

Chilliwack Portrait Photography – Eldon

I met up with my friend Eldon, who’s been in front of my camera before, after seeing he got himself a new cthulhu tattoo (his first). This photo shoot was done with nothing but a window and a love of gorgeous natural light.
